Japanese creation hits Vancouver by storm!

VANCOUVER - In 2008 hardly anybody in the Metropolitan Vancouver Area had heard of a JAPA-Dog!

The now world renowned Japanese Hot Dog stand in downtown Vancouver is making millions on the only product they sell, the JAPA-Dog.  The sands only have two locations in Vancouver and are still making the seven-figure-profits mentioned earlier.  While in Vancouver I had a chance to try a JAPA-Dog. It tasted like a combination of Sushi and a good old American Hot-Dog, which is (in reality) what it is!

Although the owners will not release an exact recipe, it is currently attracting lines of up to three hours!  I was very lucky that my line was only about 15 minutes.  Another great thing about JAPA-Dog is that most all of it's employees are immigrants to Vancouver from Japan.  The job actually pays pretty well and it is a great program for new immigrants.

Japadog owner, Noriki Tamura, is so encouraged by those incredibly long lineups in downtown Vancouver for his enormously popular Japanese sidewalk creations that he plans to set up shop in New York as well.

"I'm planning for the end of the year," Tamura told Weekend News Today yesterday. "We will expand to Los Angeles too. But we have to choose [which city] first."

Another way JAPA-Dog has received it's popularity is, the price.  It is only 6.95 (Canadian) Per JAPA-Dog.
When I talked to the owners, they mentioned that they currently have plans in the works for expanding to other cities and opening a restaurant in the Vancouver area.

The Japadog has had frequent positive exposure from Canadian, U.S. and international media during the Olympics, and celebrities such as Steven Seagal and rapper Ice Cube gave Tamura's zesty creations two thumbs up.

If you are in Vancouver, you can find the JAPA-Dog stands at the corners of Burrard St. & Smithe St. and also Burrard St. & Pender St.
