How Returning to School Affect Your Lifestyle

Picture
ORLANDO - (Rezox TV) -- It is quite likely that your way of living will have changed significantly since you last tackled the reading of set texts, the completion of practical assignments, the writing of essays and so on. Indeed, returning students have told me that the prospect of fitting in a whole new set of demands is one of the major concerns that they have in the initial stages of returning to study. I should add that a number of those same students have later reported that what they initially thought of as a significant problem to e overcome was, in reality, more a matter of readjustment and manipulation of existing arrangements.

Changes in lifestyle

In as much as your return to study will almost inevitably involve some change to your lifestyle, however minimal, then a first step to managing this is to identify your own characteristic way of living. Some events in your life are necessarily immovable (such as the time for collecting the children from school), while others are less precise in terms of timing but none the less necessary for life to go on (shopping for food).

Effective change, which can be assumed to be that which involves a minimum of pain and the best use of your time and effort in new circumstances, then becomes a matter of thinking about how certain aspects of the way you live at present may end up being a barrier to study and identifying, realistically, what can be done about it. An important prerequisite to all of this is an acceptance on your part that some changes are necessary. This is a matter, in the first instance at least, of recognizing what can be changed and deciding what you want to change. You probably fulfill different functions in different aspects of your daily life, and hence behave differently in different spheres of activity - for example, unconsciously shifting from parent to boss to employee to son/daughter to counselors to friend. Your becoming a student again is a matter, in this respect, of adopting a new functional role, of becoming something different for a new set of people.
